5D.

I don't want to risk partner misunderstadning 4N takeout and bidding 5C on xxx in clubs and x in diamonds. 4H I would think shows more in the way of spade tolerace.

I have a 3 1/2 loser hand so I will bid what seems to have a reasonable play. 4D puts too much pressure on partner to find the winning raise with many weak hands, IMO.

I would probably bid 4D at the table, but thinking about it, pd may be sitting on a heart stack. I double, and pull 3S to 4D.

I would consider 4♥. I would bid 4♦. Nothing else comes close.

I'm not sure partner over 4D can know hands like:

KJx, xxx, xxx, xxxx
xxx, xxxx, xx, K98x

are enough to justify game?

I'd bid 5D. X seems misguided (do you really WANT partner to pass? I don't), and 4D is an underbid. In these auctions just assume partner has a little something and bid accordingly. We need very little for game here.

I think Fred once posted the following rule for auctions where you are forced to make a high-level guess, and partner has neither shown nor denied values: play him for a moderate fit and one useful card.

Opposite that, we want to be in 5♦, so that's what I bid. (And this hand is a one-suiter, unless I have a lot of space to show my disparity of length.)

in a pickup game i have to bid 5d. in a regular partnership i bid 4h and pull 4s or 5c to 5d. i play this the same way as a lower level x as showing a strong 1 suited hand.

5♦. Closer to 6 than to 4.

If I double, partner will play me for a 4153 (but I might as well be 4243) so he will almost certainly bid either 3♠ or pass. If he passes it rates to be bad and if he bids 4♠ it doesn't really matter. X wins if partner has six clubs and shortness in diamonds but that's too thin a gamble.

Only two bids seems appropriate here. 5♦ and if partner will read it, 4NT where 4NT shows a minor two suiter with much better ♦'s than ♣'s. I would not double with this hand, and 4♥ leaves partner in the dark as to what your hand looks like. With such good ♦, i would probably forget 4NT on this one and just bid 5♦.

I was south, my partener's choice was 3NT, beting for my ♥stopper. East doubled, showing a hand able to play 4♥, with some defense, me and West passed, and my p redoubled showing doubt (probably no ♥ stopper). I bid 4♦, all passed. At other table our opponents played 5♦ doubled =-750. Double dummy our opponens are cold for 5♥

i think 3nt is a really bad bid.
on 4h my partner may not know what i have till the next bid but he or she will know then.
