My partner's hand showed 10 HCP -6H -A,K,J 3S AND 4 D- 7,5,4,2 and void in C.

Is his bidding correct and why 3D?

Why not 3♦? You know that p has six hearts, no reason to repeat that statement. He could have passed 3♣ but with a void it's understandable that he bid once more. Suppose you had four diamonds and a singleton or void hearts, in that case you want to play 3♦. With preference for hearts you can still bid 3♥ over his 3♦.

I dont like 3D, the suit is garbage,
and if you got hit, you wont like it,
but that is just me, and if your
partner, would have bid 3H instead
of 3D, than 3D is a lot better.

Please make hand diagrams, it isn't that hard, and it certainly makes it easier for anyone, especially if even slightly visually challanged to read and reply.

I am not visually challanged and read at 20/20 with my reading glasses but have looked at your post twice for 15 seconds and cannot figure out what the hand is.

If you know your opponents, and know they don't like to X for penalties, then you might go for the free push. It certainly wouldn't shock me for partner to show up with this hand on this auction- it sounds like a free push kind of bid.
