Scoring: IMP

Your pard open 4 - next hand doubles - you pass - 4th hand 4
pass from pard - pass - and now you ?

4    - Dbl   - Pass - 4
Pass - Pass - ???

PLEASE don't only look - please chose your bid and vote.
I don't know your choise.

I was the opener I had:

3
KQJ10982
Q54
76

6 losers - yes admitted one to many for a 4 -
(though with my regular pard I play 2-3-4 rule in teams)

The contract ended in 4 dobled - making 11 tricks.

During the board - my pard asked me if I had anything -
and are you stupid?

After the board I simply wrote that - I would suggest to take a look at the double -
which was my pard's choise for above mentioned problem - if that was a problem!

My dear pard Mr./Mrs. X seems very very sure of that it was 100% my mistake.
I asked if the contract would be set if I had ace of .
That would only be one more trick - so 4 - would only make 10 tricks.

Here are the last 4 comments:
I think my dbl was perfect if you had 4 without 7 losers. (I only counted 6)

You can't bid 4 with 7 losers in vuln (both) they double you and you lose 800

Then you understand, that 4 in vuln. position with 7 losers is completely wrong

My double was perfect (4 + 2 kings and only 2) but you should have another hand.

Just write what you feel.

Thanks

And please don't do it in Italian - as I was sub - and they surely loved to chat about my bid in Italian - so polite as well.

Double is insane of course. The 4 bid promises no defensive strength. Maybe it promises something in terms of losing trick count, but that's irrelevant in deciding whether to double for penalties. After all, opener might have had an eighth heart, which would make it a clear 4 bid, but it still wouldn't take any tricks in defence!

I would not DBL. Pass.
I expect 1 or 2 tricks max from 4H bid and I will make 1 or 2. I don't see any reason to DBL 4S. Even at MP's I would not DBL.
I expect opps to have 20 to 24 outside H. Adding to this that we will only make 1 trick in H's: I would never DBL this.
(You could also have opened 3H's iso 4, but the probability of you making 2 tricks is only higher if you opened 3H).

The first words that came in my mind were: "what a stupid question, pass ofcourse", so I guess Dbl is REALLY ridiculous. North promissed some playing strength in , not outside that suit. South only has 2 Kings, which aren't tricks as well. So where are you ever gonna get 4 tricks?? :)

I don't like the 4 preempt (3 is much better) but that's not the problem of this hand. Give North an extra and you have a clear 4 opener, and it doesn't change anything to the result when opponents are playing.

it does: the probability of making a H trick when adding a H to the opener hand is 0%, with the 7-card it is a bit higher.

4H is a slight overbid, but the quality of the heart suit compensates somewhat.

Whether pard opened 3H or 4H, most people (but not all) treat it as a preemptive bid that promises ZERO defensive tricks outside of hearts (The hand may have outside defensive tricks, but you cant count on any).

Assume partner has his 8th heart to go along with your two. You have 10 combined hearts between your two hands. The most you can ever take is one heart trick.

Now, which one of your two kings did you think was taking three more tricks to set 4S?

EDIT: Apologies, when I originally wrote this I thought the Original Poster was the hand that doubled. My mistake, I see now that the Original Poster held the hand that opened 4. Sorry.

Now, which one of your partners two kings did HE/SHE think was taking three more tricks to set 4S?
Is the word "pass" not in your vocabulary?

Double is absolutely out of the question.
"Champions aren't made in gyms, champions are made from something they have deep inside them - a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill. " - M. Ali

I wouldn't double, but when I first saw the problem with the 4 baby spades, i considered 5. I still think pass is best, however.

;) You may have been a sub because this clown drove his original partner away. Some of these BBO types are pretty good players, but then they get drunk and lose it. It's not worth losing a moment's notice over.

Hi,

Pass, wtp? ;)

Pass is espespecially obvious, if you play
the 2-3-4 rule, which will lead to a lot of
agressive preempts, the 4H bid is fine, but
on the border.

5H is also no option, since you cant be sure,
that you have a sure trick for partner.
Playing your style, you should only raise with
the prospect of 1 1/2 trick for partner, believe
you will need the money in war chest to survive.

With kind regards
Marlowe
