My hand was H AK98653 S A3 D A C AT9
and My Partner opened 1D in first seat and I replied 1H and my P answered 1S
Now i tried 4nt (0314) and my P's 5C showing no S king ...
i tried 5nt and my P's 6H.....
I don't know if my P has H Q or not.... I'm afraid i can't bid 5D after my P's 5C
I hoped my P has H Q or 2 cards H to drop opp's H Q...
And hoped my weak S3 and C T9 can be controled with my P's cards.....
So I bravely but greedily bid 7 H.....
My P's hand was H Q72 S Q864 D K876 C KQ and 7H was made easily...
I claimed and one of my opponent went away and new opponent comes
and accepted my claim.....
Now new opponent asked me how did you know your P had H Q?
I said I didn't know but I had 7 H and even if my P had not H Q .. I hoped he had 2 H cards to drop H Q.....
And the new opponent told me gently " Go away "

I know I was greedy but Did I do that wrong to hear go away???
What I really know is that xxxxxxx [edited-inquiry] (the new opponent) is an EXPERT bridge player and has NOVICE bridge manner for sure....

Better edit those names, it's easy to talk behind someone's back while he can't defend himself. If you just use 'player xxx' it will be much more appreciated from the moderators, and you'll still get your answer... B)

If "go away" was meant seriously, there is no excuse for it. He/she may have been using it as a joke, I don't know.

As to your bidding, it was aggressive, and I wouldn't have done it, but so what?

People overbid all the time, and sometimes they make it, which keeps them overbidding

Best Story.....

I shuda bid 3H and only if my P understand that my jump to 3H does not promise 6 cards or more he would bid 4H showing 3 cards ......
And I bid 4nt to listen 5C showing no key cards and I ask HQ by bidding 5D and hear 6C showing HQ and CK and no SK....
By this time I already know my P has doubleton C (4342) or singleton CK (4351)
Next I bid 6D to know if he has DK to discard my poor S3.....
And I hear 7H saying he has DK and I pass .............
No way to lose Grand Slam...........

I regret my 4NT

I'm not an expert, and I'm not an advanced player either........
I hope to be advancing player between intermediate and advanced..........

Thank you

In which system is 1♦-1♥-1♠-3♥ forcing?
Why did you not rebid 2♣ (FSF)?

Our profiles say nothing about FSF.... and how can my P pass my jump to 3H?

Even if you aren't playing the 4SF convention, a bid of 2♣ in that auction would be forcing. Perhaps partner would think it was natural (although I doubt it -- that the fourth suit 'may be artificial' is a default part of basic sayc) but in any case p will know that it's forcing.

Playing sayc, 2/1 gf or the like, 1♦ - 1♥ - 1♠ -3♥ shows an invitational strength responding hand and can be passed. If 3♥ were forcing in that sequence responder wouldn't have a bid for the more run-of-the-mill hands like

♠ 83
♥ AKJ763
♦ J94
♣ J5

I think americans play 3♥ as forcing. I was very surprised when I saw it first time long ago .

The only greedness I could see on this hand iwould be if you had tried to make an overtrick in 7♥ . Opponents that want you to leave for being too good are wellcome to leave you alone forever. You can find better opps for sure.

The person who told you to "go away" is confused. It is a perfectly reasonable auction and logic. Also, NGNG, no guts no glory. Nice hand.

I suspect your opponents unhappyness had a lot to do with seeing not only the heart queen in dummy on this auction, but also ONLY 3♠'s (for the 1♠ rebid) plus an undisclosed four card support where you blasted to grand slam.

Now with your monster opposite an opening bid (all four aces, a seven card suit to AK), bidding slam and maybe even blindly guessing grand slam in hearts is doable. You would not ahve been so happy if parnter held QJxx void KQJTx KQxx for instance, but maybe he would correct 7♥ to 7NT which will be on a lucky split in clubs plus the ♠ hook.

But some auctions deserve to be lucky, this probably wasn't one in your opponents eyes.. if your partner raises to 2♥ over your 1♥ you could bid 7♥ right here without bothering anyine (any four hearts is good enough). I suspect your opponent didn't even look at your hand... he heard a 1♠ response denying hearts, he heard you then opposite zero key cards and no known fit bid grand slam in a suit that was never supported. This auction is no different to him in many ways than 1D=7H or 1D=1H=1S=7H.

BTW if you fear that 2♣ might not be forcing (it is), lie a little bit and rebid 3♣.

You need a strong emphasis on the "long ago". Goren definitely played 1C-1H-1N-3H as forcing (I looked it up in his 1957 edition) and I think he played 1C-1H-1S-3H as forcing but I am not sure. I wouldn't try it with anyone who has played in the last forty years.

You have the spades and hearts switched. The OP wrote:

"My P's hand was H Q72 S Q864 D K876 C KQ and 7H was made easily..."

It would have been better if he named the spades first and then the hearts, but maybe he wanted to mention the trumps first.
