Egypt is taking over the Bridge world. With good play they are in 2nd place on the leaderboard and just now they disposed of the mighty Italians 19 - 11.

There have been surprise victories before, is Egypt the next world champion?

They are playing extremely well. It certainly is good for BBO too, as waso is here a lot. In fact, since around Janauray through August he has played nearly 2000 hands of bridge in BBO with 149 different partners. All these guys can say they have played with a world champion if Egypt wins.

But as good as egypt is playing, and they are playing very well, I still think Italy and the two USA teams and Egypt are all serious candidates for the top spot. Without weighing the chances of any of those, egypt is at best 25% chance, and clearly less that that. I wish them luck (but I am hoping USA2 takes it).

Steve Martin's song was "King Tut". But he did the Egyptian pose when he performed it, like the Bangles did with their song.

I don't think that Egypt is going to make it to the finals. They obviously have one very strong pair, and two pairs that are scoring below average. Their first pair has played almost every round so far, and I don't think that they will be able to do that at such a high level for the whole tournament. It seems that especially the Italian team and also the two American teams are more balanced.

(note that I'm counting on Hamway and GitMo to get to their top form soon).
